Semantics and Web 3.0

Semantics

Most of available information on the web can be interpreted only by men, not by machines, as is clear when we try to use a site in an unknown foreign language.

Semantics adds meaning to data, so that they can be understood not only by men but by machines and since they help us to search and use information in a more effective way.

In order to accomplish that, it is necessary to add to the application a) a knowledge data base, for describing the meanings b) suitable technologies, to associate the text with their meaning. In the last decade the diffusion of semantic applications was enabled by the W3C recommendations related to semantics, as RDF, OWL and so, facilitated the interface between different building blocks and with the knowledge data base.

Semantics hence becomes a new paradigm to be known by IT professional and manager today, in order to identify opportunities and risks. IntelliSemantic on its side uses semantics in its OTS solutions as well in its custom projects and can provide consultancy and training.
